NCSA unveils National Incident Management Framework to tackle cyber challenges

Doha, Qatar: The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) formally launched the National Incident Management Framework, yesterday to address emerging challenges and a coordinated approach for managing cyber incidents of national importance has been developed.

Held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the initiative provides a structured approach and detailed guidelines for handling cyber incidents, with a focus on coordination among decision-makers and the various involved entities.

Officials participating in the event noted that the National Incident Management Framework aims to strengthen Qatar’s readiness to reduce the immediate impact of cyber incidents with national significance.

Speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of the launch, Ahmed Al Hammadi, Director of National Cyber ​​Security Operations Affairs expressed the delight of the National Incident Management Framework initiative in the cyber security industry.

“The initiative is actually a part of our national cybersecurity strategy here in Qatar so the objectives of this framework are to enhance the cooperation and communication between organisations and partners once an incident occurs,” Al Hammadi said.

During his keynote speech, NCSA President, Eng. Abdulrahman bin Ali Al Farahid Al Malki stressed that this initiative is crucial for boosting Qatar’s ability to effectively respond to cyber threats.

He stated “The National Cyber Security Agency has crafted this framework in alignment with international best practices for cybersecurity governance, ensuring the cooperation of state entities in managing various types of cyber incidents whether technical, operational, or security related. This approach safeguards the nation’s assets and ensures the continuity of its operations.”

The official also highlighted that the implementation of the National Incident Management Framework is a shared responsibility, requiring the unified efforts of all state entities in collaboration with the National Cyber Security Agency. This cooperation is vital for safeguarding cyberspace, fostering sustainable national development, and establishing Qatar as a global and regional leader in cybersecurity. 

He further noted that implementing the National Incident Management Framework is a collective responsibility, necessitating the concerted efforts of all state entities alongside the National Cyber Security Agency. 

This collaboration is essential to protect cyberspace, support sustainable national development, and position Qatar as a leader in cybersecurity both regionally and
globally.

The inauguration featured three-panel discussions including ‘Cyber Incidents and the Role of Law Enforcement,’ ‘The Importance of Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) in National Cyber Security Incidents,’ and ‘Incident and Crisis Management Frameworks.’ The National Incident Management Framework offers a thorough approach to handling cyber incidents at the national level. 

The event was attended by several high-level delegates and senior officials from the private and public sectors.
