Doha: The citizens and residents will celebrate Qatar National Day today with traditional zeal, participating in an array of activities being held across the country.
The National Day celebrations intensified a week ago at different venues including Katara, Aspire Park, Education City while the major event — the National Day Parade — will be held today at the Corniche today.
To celebrate the day, different government and private buildings including homes have been decorated with national flags and lighting.
This year’s National Day activities are being held at several locations, including Al Wakrah Old Souq, Aspire Park, Al Rami Sports Club and Qatar Foundation, enabling citizens and expatriates to participate in them.
People have also decorated their vehicles with Qatari flags and stickers to express their love and loyalty to the country.
The activities of the National Day 2021 are being held under the slogan ‘Ancestral Meadows: A Matter of Trust’ which is based on the poetry of the country’s founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani.
Celebrations and activities will be played live on giant screens at different locations.
The Qatar National Day Parade at Corniche will start at 9am and like the last year, entry for public is by invitation only.
There will also be fireworks on the Doha Corniche in the evening, after the end of the Arab Cup final match.
The Torch Fireworks event took place in Aspire Zone last night which amused thousands of people with dazzling lights and colours. Qatar Foundation’s first performing arts festival, D’reesha, also concluded yesterday on a high note after attracting a large number of visitors.
Qatar Balloon Festival, which started on December 9, will also conclude today. The second edition of the festival featured 35 hot air balloons with some special shapes including a frog, bear, tiger, fox, dog, clown and even a ship. The activities during the 10-day festival included violin performance, dancing, mascot, magic, DJ, band, and kids shows. Food kiosks and trucks, and Children’s outdoor inflatable bouncers were also among the attractions at the festival.
Al Wakrah Old Souq is hosting National Day activities and competitions, including the folk games such as ‘Sad o Rad’, ‘Bar o Bahr’ and ‘Keram’, promoting the spirit of participation and competition among children.
The FIFA Arab Cup 2021 final will take place at Al Bayt Stadium today, making National Day more special and providing people with an another opportunity to celebrate the special day. The National Day celebrations at Al Rami Sports Club also include a shooting championship for professionals, in addition to the establishment of another championship.
