French Ambassador congratulates Qatar, stresses strategic relations

Doha: The Ambassador of the French Republic to the State of Qatar, Franck Gellet (pictured) stressed that the celebration of the National Day is a happy occasion for the State of Qatar.

The French Ambassador said that “18th of December celebrates Qatar’s independence and nationhood and marks as well the beginning of a strong and friendly relation between France and Qatar. Since then, our bilateral relations have only been strengthening and expanding. The frequency of our meetings or exchanges is undoubtedly one of the best signs of the excellent relationship that binds our two countries.”

He also conveyed congratulations to H H the Amir of Qatar and to the Qatari people and government on this happy occasion to celebrate Qatar National Day.

In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Ambassador said “I am impressed by the commitment and dedication of the Qatari authorities and the Qatari people to achieve the goal of featuring the country as a model of harmony between tradition and modernity. It is essential in my view not to be cut from one’s roots and, at the same time, to get the best from what today has to offer. . And indeed, a huge work is done and underway towards this purpose, together with the fast growing progress on the infrastructure ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022.”

“I am also meeting my fellow citizens who are 5, 500 living in Qatar with their families taking part in the development and the social life of the country and enjoying the quality of life,” he added.

The French Ambassador said that Qatar is committed to international law, multilateralism, dialogue and mediation, and plays an active role on the international scene supporting development and peace.

Qatar is providing humanitarian support to peoples throughout the world, in Africa, Asia, in the Middle East, he added. Both Qatar and France will soon raise their commitment to the strategic level, he said. The French Ambassador also referred to the visit of the French President Emmanuel Macron to Doha in December 2017 and the two visits paid by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to France within a year, in July 2018 and lately in November.

The Ambassador described the Qatari-French relations as excellent and said that they witnessed continuous development in various fields.
