Doha: President of Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) H E Dr. Saleh bin Mohamed Al Nabit has stressed the importance of cooperation between the authority and different sectors in the state, to establish a world-class and comprehensive statistical system in the state.
He added that such a system would meet the need of decision makers, and other data users of different fields and interests.
In a speech given on the occasion of Geographic Information System (GIS) Day, Al Nabit said that the day’s celebration is an occasion to raise awareness of the importance of statistics, and using GIS in different fields given its wide range of use cases.
GIS Day falls on November 17 every year.
He also highlighted the importance of integrating GIS to support the decision-making process related to social, economic and environmental policies.
Al Nabit stressed the authority’s commitment to linking data to the geographical location in order to enrich and enhance the capabilities of statistical information and to establish a world-class statistical system for the country that produces high-quality statistical data and information that meets the needs of data users of all types.
He said the PSA will use the event to review the uses of GIS in the authority, and meet the needs of users in all fields, adding that the event could also open lines of communication with other organisations to increase cooperation between government entities and other organisations.
The ceremony included a brief video on the impact of GIS and how it could be used in a number of vital sectors.
