Al Rumaihi seals third win at Al Rayyan Championship

DOHA: Mubarak Yousuf Al Rumaihi continued his stunning form at the Al Rayyan International Show Jumping Championship as he sealed his third title at this year’s event with a flawless ride astride Vivaldi K.

At the Qatar Equestrian Federation’s Outdoor Arena yesterday, Al Rumaihi, 34, guided his reliable gelding to win the feature event in 70 seconds and secured the top prize of the day worth €2,000.

The Qatari rider who scooped two titles, including a 1-2 finish on the opening day, narrowly missed a second podium in the same event when his 12-year-old stallion Bolandro made four errors on their way to complete the round, clocking 70.18 seconds.

Anyway Ii, with Rashid Towaim Al Marri in the saddle, spent 73.38 seconds to complete the task and made no errors as he booked the second place in the 145cm event, which also acted as a qualifying competition for the FEI World Cup’s competition number nine.

Al Marri won €1,600 in prize money.

Popular French rider Cyrine Cherif, astride Gerlin VD Waterkant, clocked a time of 73.50 seconds to book the remaining spot on the podium. She got richer by €1,200.

Al Rumaihi and Bolandro who were placed fourth, won €800 in prize money. His compatriot Khalid Mohammed Al Emadi who guided Colibri 19 in a routine that took 71.71 seconds to complete, rounded up the top five in the €8,000 event.

Earlier, in the 130cm class, Qatari rider Jaber Rashid Al Amri, 25, guided Canavaro De Muze (ET) in an error-free ride to secure the top spot on the podium which also earned him €1,500 in prize money. The duo completed the round in 47.28 seconds.

Eglantine Du Castelet, with Salman Mohammed Al Emadi in the saddle, clocked a time of 47.48 seconds to seal the second place after another flawless run. The duo won a prize cheque worth €1,200.

Saeed Nasser Al Qadi, who missed out on a podium finish in the opening event of the day, guided Daydreamer EC in the same manner as they completed the task in 49.78 seconds to win the third place as well as €900 in prize money.

The first event of the day saw the competitors clearing 115cm-tall hurdles as a total of €5000 were up for grabs. Hussain Said Haidan emerged the winner in the event and he was astride Belucci Van ‘T Vleminkhof. The 12-year-old mare completed the round with no errors in 47.99 seconds to seal the top prize of €1,250.

Vlacido, ridden by Mohammed Nasser Al Qadi, finished second with a time of 48.26 seconds as the teenager bagged a prize cheque worth €1,000. Ghanim Nasser Al Qadi guided Al Shaqab-owned Jalieny Diamant Z to complete the task in 48.70 seconds as he got richer by €750.

The championship concludes today with all eyes on the feature class – the Grand Prix which will serve as one of the qualifying rounds of the Arab League for the 2018 World Cup. The total prize money for the Grand Prix is €12,000.

The two-star €60,000 competition, which was launched in 2014, is organised by the QEF in collaboration with Al Shaqab.
