Al Rayyan’s charismatic striker Sebastian Soria will continue to play for the reigning Qatar Stars League (QSL) champions, following a two-year contract extension with the club. The club made the announcement via social media and their official website, stating that the contract was signed in the presence of Al Rayyan club officials on Wednesday night.
Soria’s current deal was set to expire at the end of the season, however, now the Qatari international attacker will play for Al Rayyan till the summer of 2019.
The 33-year old Uruguayan born star emerged in the world football scene in 2002, playing for
Liverpool de Montevideo in a two-year stint, before moving to Qatar in 2004. Soria joined Al Gharafa before moving to Qatar Sports Club and then Lekhwiya.
Soria was signed by Al Rayyan in 2015 and since then, he has been one of the key forces behind their success story, aiding the Lions to their first QSL Falcon Shield in 21 years, sharing the Lions’ attack line with former Spanish international Sergio Garcia.
Soria’s contract extention comes just a week after their talismanic captain Rodrigo Tabata signed an agreement to serve the QSL champions for two more years.
The two Qatari Internationals’ continuation with Al Rayyan will be a major boost for the team.
However, Al Rayyan have failed to find the top spot of the QSL points table this season so far, but remain in the fourth spot after beating bottom of the table Al Wakra 4-0 at Al Sadd’s Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in their last game.
It has been a different story for them in the AFC Champions League. Al Rayyan registered an emphatic 3-1 win over Persepolis in Doha three days ago when Tabata bagged a brace and set up another to take their team to the top of Group D.
