Riyadh: Minister of Municipality H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie participated yesterday in the ministerial meeting of the International Council of Dates, which is being held in Al Ahsa governorate, Saudi Arabia.
The meeting was attended by a number of agriculture ministers, as well as representatives of a number of world-class producers and importers of dates, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the Arab Organisation for Agricultural Development (AOAD), and the Arab Centre for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD).
The International Council of Dates aims to activate international cooperation in the field of dates, implement activities that require teamwork, meet the challenges facing the palm and dates sector, and address research issues and production techniques, developing date industries and raising capacity to achieve sustainable development of dates at the global and regional level.
Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality, pays great attention to the palm and dates sector, where it is keen to support and encourage local production of dates, through the development of the agricultural sector, supporting farm owners and those interested in palm cultivation, as well as organizing a local date exhibition and a local date festival to market local farm products.
