The world’s first sustainable downtown regeneration project, Msheireb Downtown Doha, will be presenting “cultures of countries” participating in this year’s World Cup and will host month-long social and entertainment events designed for everyone.
Msheireb Properties PR and Communication Manager, Maryam Al Jassem said they will present cultures of all countries participating in the World Cup, which gets under way on Sunday. On Friday, November 18, a street-long celebration of cultures called Al Sikka International Festival will be held. CONMEBOL is the governing body of football in South America, also known as the Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol. It is one of FIFA’s six continental confederations. “The Tree of Dreams will present football legends like [Diego] Maradona, Pelé, and other famous football stars,” said Al Jassem.
Msheireb Downtown Doha will also host various entertainment packages and international cuisines that include exclusive match screenings at the three 5-star hotels located there: Mandarin Oriental, Park Hyatt Doha, and Alwadi Doha-MGallery.
The exhibitions and activities include Mawater Warehouse Exhibition, which is a showcase of unique cars; Intaj – Film, Television and Theatre Exhibition, a multimedia exhibition of Qatar’s cinema, filmmaking and theatre movements; Art Exhibition, a creative showcase of local and international artists; Quest Gaming District, an e-sports and gaming experience; HomeGrown Store, a concept store featuring Qatari goods; The Hangout, a place to relax and enjoy a nice bite; and Onside Doha, a ticketed pop-up cinema and culinary experience featuring award winning films at the heart of football.
Talking to The Peninsula, Jeanne, from Singapore, said the downtown is like a breath of fresh air amidst the bustling city. “It’s a smart city which is very commendable, adapting to new technology and adding to the sustainability efforts this country wanted to achieve. It also offers tons of exhibitions and entertainment options, plus the dining experience in Msheireb is remarkable.”
Alexandre, a Spanish visitor, arrived in Qatar for the match between Spain and Costa Rica on November 23. “Msheireb is one of the touristic places and a must visit in Qatar. This is my first time travelling to Qatar and this downtown just blew my mind, everywhere you go – it’s Instagram worthy.”

And come the World Cup, I will surely be here most of the days especially at night, I’m one of the people who’ll be availing the match screenings here.”
