Doha: Qatar’s Saeed Al Sulaiti clinched his third win in the Spanish CIV Open (SSP) 600 season to seal the championship title with a brilliant ride at the Jerez-Angel Nitro Circuit in Jerez de la Frontera. 

The multiple-time Qatari Supersock 600 title-holder, Sulaiti topped the 34-strong line-up in Round 6 of the Inter-regional Speed Championship (CIV), final leg of the 36th Andalucian Speed Festival which also marked the conclusion of the Spanish Superbike season.

Sulaiti won podium spots on five out of six rounds during the 2021 season and that also included race wins in the third and fifth rounds apart from his latest victory on Sunday. 

Al Sulaiti amassed a total of 122 points from six rounds by maintaining exceptional form throughout the season.

Starting in the front line of the grid   after recording the second fastest time in Saturday’s qualifying session, Al Sulaiti, who competes for Team CIV Motorsport, completed the 12-lap race at the 4.42 km circuit in 21 minutes and 22.596 secs. 

He was 1.483 secs faster than pole sitter Angel Heredia Martinez of Spain who eventually lost to Al Sulaiti in Sunday’s competition as well as the Championship title race. 

Martinez signed off with 108 points in the 2021 Championship at the second spot in the final standings.

Al Sulaiti also clocked the fastest lap time during of the race in his third lap, recording 1:45.846 with a top speed of 225kmh. Young rider Carlos Torrecillas finished third overall to win the Yamaha R6 class. 

Al Sulaiti’s compatriot Yousef Al Darwish also excelled by finished in the fifth spot as he booked the third place in the Yamaha R6 class.

Darwish was 8 seconds adrift of race winner Sulaiti and showed exceptional riding skills by recording his fastest lap time in the fourth lap of the race, clocking a time of 1:46.208.

This season’s CIV Championship saw riders from more than 28 countries in action in a number of race categories, including Open 1000, Cup 600, Cup 1000, Women’s 1000, Supersport 300, Women’s 600, and the Legends and Classics categories.
