Doha: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said yesterday that there had been no talks or contact with any of the parties in recent weeks to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, according to Al Jazeera.
The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs added - during a press conference at the conclusion of GCC-EU Summit at the EU headquarters in Brussels - "Regarding the prospects of negotiations, we are moving in the same circle amid silence from all parties."
He also pointed out that the Brussels Summit is being held at a very important moment for the two regions, and that the two parties - the Gulf and the European - held an important discussion on the Middle East, especially on Lebanon and Gaza.
Prime Minister stressed that everyone's priority now is to stop the aggression against the Lebanese people, and that the only way to resolve the conflict in the region is the two-state solution.
It is noteworthy that the leaders of the European Union and the GCC countries meeting in Brussels expressed - in their final statement - their support for America, Qatar and Egypt in their efforts to stop the ceasefire in Gaza, and they also called for an end to the escalation in Lebanon.
This is the first Gulf-European summit of its kind since the launch of official relations between the two sides in 1989, and is held under the joint chairmanship of Amir of Qatar, the country which is presiding the Cooperation Council, H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the President of the European Council, H E Charles Michel.
