Saleh Safran, Co-Founder and CEO of ‘Subol Products Design’ at the CES 2019
Collective efforts provided by Qatari agencies in transforming the energy-rich economy into a well-diversified knowledge-based society have already started writing many success stories and encouraging results. Some 12 local firms, under the banner of Qatar Development Bank (QDB), showcased their innovative products and technology at the world’s largest technology fair—CES expo— which concluded recently in Las Vegas, USA.
CES, formerly an acronym for Consumer Electronics Show, is an annual trade show organized by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). It is the global platform for all those who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. It showcases more than 4,500 exhibiting companies, including manufacturers, developers and suppliers of consumer technology hardware, content, technology delivery systems and more from 150 countries.
“We are participating and showcasing our product ‘Samam LPG leakage detection system’ at CES. With the support of QDB, there are 12 Qatari firms participating in the exhibition,” said Saleh Safran, Co-Founder and CEO of ‘Subol Products Design’ which has invented the technology, in a message on his twitter handle.
‘Samam’ is a smart safety system based on Internet of Things (IoT) dedicated to the LPG and natural gas value chain. The technology helps detect gas leakages and immediately shuts off the system through the use of a mobile phone application.
Safran, the budding Qatari entrepreneur, in a short video message, added: “We are one of the participants in the coveted exhibition with the support of QBIC, which has been very helpful and it is one of the first supporters for the emerging projects in Qatar.”
He acknowledged that ‘Samam’ project was supported by Qatar Business Incubation Centre (QBIC), and the project became successful after their able training, guidance and logistical support.
Safran also encouraged others with innovative ideas to benefit from the facilities and support provided by QBIC, which is currently receiving applications for the next session. Each session of the QBIC’s incubation and mentoring programme is consisting of 10 weeks. Any project accepted by the QBIC receives all kinds of possible support, including free office space and other facilities.
The short video clip, recoded at the pavilion of QBIC, a QDB entity, at the CES expo, also featured messages from other participants from Qatar who are the beneficiaries of QDB’s support.
Another participant at the CES event, Hisham Fishawi, the promoter of ‘At Home Doc’ mobile application, also echoed similar views about the extensive support and benefits provided by QDB and QBIC.
‘At Home Doc’ app brings the users doctors, medications and laboratories anytime anywhere. The mobile app also offers a list of other medical services, including Kids Health, Physiotherapy, Wellness Trainer, Live Chat and many more, at the click of a finger tip.
