Doha: The Maritime Customs Department at Hamad Port foiled an attempt to smuggle chewing tobacco into Qatar.

Customs stated that the banned substance was found upon suspicion of a shipment containing foodstuffs. The shipment was searched and a total of 1,338 bags of chewing tobacco. The total weight of the prohibited items were approximately 1,672.5 kilograms.

A few days ago, authorities at Hamad Port Customs also thwarted the same kind of contraband hidden in a shipment of coconuts and lemons.

Customs officers are provided with all means of support including the latest devices and continuous training to read the body language of passengers and to be aware of the latest methods followed by smugglers.
