Doha: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has reminded the public to be cautious when receiving calls from numbers requesting personal or financial information.
During his interview with Qatar Radio, Lieutenant Saqr Khamees Al Kubaisi, Assistant Director of the Capital Security Department, warned the public regarding fraudulent phone calls that appear to originate from local numbers in order to create an impression of credibility.
Alkubaisi said that “recently, several citizens and residents in Qatar have been receiving fraudulent phone calls, asking to provide information about their bank accounts or are falsely informed that they have won a financial prize."
He added: "Some people are interested in knowing the returns on these investments. I would like to advise citizens not to share any personal information or details about their bank accounts with any unofficial entity. It is important to take caution and refrain from providing sensitive information over the phone.”
“It should be noted that some of these calls originate from international numbers, utilizing specific techniques," he explained.
Alkubaisi affirmed that the Economic Cyber Crimes Prevention Department is fully aware of the issue and is taking all necessary measures to address it.
