DOHA: Qatari riders are eager to make their mark in the world of show jumping and their performance in the ongoing CHI Al Shaqab proves exactly that.
Qatar’s Hussain Said Haidan clinched the CSI 3 Star (Accumulator) yesterday, riding Univers in 53.95 seconds.
The 23-year-old, who has been riding for 16 years, pocketed Euros 3500 for his efforts.
The Qatari said riding at Al Shaqab Arena was a proud moment for him and the sport is gaining a lot of momentum locally.
“There were a handful of Qataris, maybe five at the start but now there are more than 30 riders participating in this event. This shows that the sport has gained a lot in a very short span,” Haidan said during a TV interview yesterday.
“Sheikh Ali is without any doubt the best rider we have but more and more are coming up. I see local riders participating in the 5 Star event now which is great,” he added.
The second place in the event was grabbed by Awad Al Qahtani riding Santos.
He finished the round in 61.47 seconds. The third place was secured by yet another Qatari Sheikh Khalifa Abdulaziz Al Thani. Piloting Last Chance 9, Sheikh Khalifa finished the round in 61.64 seconds.
