Doha: Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council H E Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti has affirmed that the two draft laws of social insurance and military retirement approved by the Council yesterday comes to enhance social protection for the Qatari citizen, and meet the aspirations of retirees.
She pointed out that the draft laws reflect the keenness of the wise leadership to achieve well-being for all citizens without exception.
In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), she noted that the draft laws came in implementation of the lofty directives of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, aiming at providing a decent life for citizens, in addition to His Highness keenness to improve the standard of living for everyone in a manner that guarantees them dignity and tranquility, including retirees who have made a lot of effort to serve the country and contribute to its growth and prosperity.
She stressed that the two drafts represented a quantum leap that benefit retirees and citizens in general, adding that raising the minimum pension will achieve balance and stability and will contribute to keeping pace with rapid developments and meeting the cost of living.
The Deputy Speaker said two draft laws would create balance and would include new categories that hadn’t been covered by insurance protection, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, seeking to secure the continuation of a decent life for citizens, generation after generation.
She noted that the articles of the two draft laws underlined the wise leadership’s interest in women, motherhood, and family, as well as supporting the continued efforts made by Qatar to promote the rights of people with disabilities.
She referred to amendments made in the two draft laws with regard to the widow’s pension share, in order to help her with the cost of living, and support her children, as the two drafts provided for an increase in the pension share of the widow to 100 percent in the absence of beneficiaries, and also provided for the right to keep the pension without reduction in the event of the insured’s resignation (women) to take care of her children with disabilities.
She also pointed out that the articles of the two drafts included many aspects that had to do with society, and came in response to the aspirations of retirees and developments that occurred in society.
Dr. Hamda Al Sulaiti noted that the two law drafts included more than 25 new features, most importantly, setting the minimum and maximum pension, and allowing to have more than one pension or salary, stressing that such advantages, will not only contribute to improving the conditions of retirees, it will also contribute to raising the country’s rating in several global indicators.
The Deputy Speaker praised the cooperation and integration between the Council and the government in studying the two draft laws. She said that the Council and the government were keen to draft the two laws so that they would be issued in an appropriate manner that meets the aspirations of citizens.
She thanked the chairman and members of the joint committee formed by the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committees and the Financial and Economic Affairs Committees for their appreciable efforts during the past period, by studying the two draft laws carefully and thoroughly to come up with these fruitful results.
