Qatar offers concrete investment opportunities

Doha: Germany-based Berlin Partner for Business and Technology will host an event in February next year that will give entrepreneurs from Qatar and Germany a chance to explore business opportunities and find potential partners. Qatar has concrete investment opportunities and there is a massive ecosystem where startups and businesses can use Doha as a hub to expand in the region, said an official during a digital event for Berlin startups.

Christian Treichel, Senior Area Manager Gulf Region - Turkey, Berlin Partner for Business and Technology said, “We are preparing a trip to Doha and Dubai in February. We will use this event to lift synergies which will make it easy for companies to get in touch with potential partners. Our partners from Qatar include Ministry for Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) which is running a big project called Tasmu Digital Valley and Invest Qatar.”

The meet will bring different entrepreneurs, investors, mentors, stakeholders, corporates, and potential partners, showcasing business model and forming cross-continental connections and partnerships. It will be a platform to explore Doha and learn about Qatar’s transformation into a knowledge-based economy with great opportunities for start-ups from all around the globe.
Noor Nedal Abu Khadija, Partnership Lead, TASMU Digital Valley, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) discussed about opportunities in Qatar. “Qatar is located at the heart of the Gulf as the intersection of three continents, with 60 percent of the population within 8 hours, this pivotal geographical location is a beneficial to extend economic zones in Qatar to promote the foreign investment making it easier for international entities to setup and operate in Qatar and support the nation in being a gateway to the world,” she said.

Qatar’s economy has rebounded led by expansion in the non-energy sector. Over past few years Qatar has been taking huge efforts to diversify its economy to more knowledge based and less hydrocarbon based which has reflected in its top rankings regionally and globally. “Mega projects such as Lusail City, Hamad Port, Msheireb, Qatar Science and Technology Park, and Tasmu Smart Qatar are currently underway with its non-hydrocarbon focus. Digital enablement has been the key theme for these mega projects,” she said. 

Mirza Ali, Manager, TASMU Digital Valley, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) shared key investments Qatar has made in order to achieve its QND 2030 vision. He shed light on the flagship program Tasmu Smart Qatar and what Tasmu Digital Valley is doing for Qatari digital innovation ecosystem. 

Ali said, “Tasmu Smart Qatar program is pivotal to realise the 2030 vision as it is a digital transformation program at a national level which has a potential to have multiplier effect beyond digital sector. It has a potential to impact plethora of sectors like transport, health, environment, logistics, sports, real estate, ICT, telecom, technology and also impact the lives of citizens (a set of 100 plus smart solutions or projects have been identified to be launched from 2020 to 2025). 

Speaking about the role of Tasmu Digital Valley as an ecosystem orchestrator, he noted that our mission is to grow and promote an innovative and vibrant digital ecosystem in Qatar to enable the realisation of a sustainable digital economy and a smart future.
