Expatriate communities will join the National Day celebrations in a big away as the Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with community organisations, has lined up a wide array of cultural and entertainment events for them in different parts of the country.
The events on December 17 and December 18 are being coordinated by the Organising Committee of the Associated Activities of Qatar National Day (QND)2016 Celebrations.
A new attraction this year is a parade at Asian Town by a small convoy of military vehicles with participation of vehicles from Internal Security Force, Traffic Department, Civil Defense and Al Faza police at 8 am on Sunday. The events were announced by Major Mubarak Salem Bouainain, Assistant Director of the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior at a press conference held at Civil Defence Officers’ Club yesterday.
“We are organising seven events in four venues with the aim of providing a safer environment for the communities residing in Qatar to take part in the National Day celebrations and enjoy the whole day in happiness and joy,” said Major Nasser Abdullah al Suwaidi, Vice Chairman of QND Celebrations Security Committee, who was also present at the press conference.
Several classic cars from Mawater Qatar, many motor bikes from Harley Davidson group and decorated vehicles of Filipino community also will participate in the parade and then the three groups will be visiting other three venues the same day, Major Nasser added. A mega international cricket tournament will take place from 11.30am on December 18 with participation of 16 famous cricket players from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh including Yusuf Pathan, Wasim Jaffer and Lakshmipathi Balaji from India, Salman Butt, Saeed Ajmal, Kamran Akmal, Khalid Bashir, Umar Akmal and Sohail Tanveer from Pakistan, Muhammed Ashraful, Mohammed Sharif and Muhammed Elias from Bangladesh and Chaminda Vass and Farveez Mahroof from Sri Lanka and Nawroz Mangal from Afghanistan.
A range of cultural events, musical performances, art competitions and sports championships will be organized at Asian Town (Industrial area), Wakra Sports Stadium, Rayyan Sports Club and Barwa Workers’ Recreation Complex in Al Khor.
Indian and Sri Lankan community teams and artists will showcase their cultural and musical performances at Asian Town. This venue will host art competitions and cultural shows by students of different expatriate schools.
A students' parade, cultural shows and competitions will start at 8 am on December 18. The Indian community will showcase more than 30 cultural, traditional and thematic items.
A mega Indian musical concert will be hosted at Asian Town, Industrial Area led by popular singers from Indian and Nepal including Ravindra Upadhyay, Pratiksha Kulshresta, Deepak Singh Mahan and Shiv Bahadur, on Saturday, December 17. The event will start at 4 pm.
The events of Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities along with the students of different expatriate schools will take place at Al Wakra Sports Club.
The events will comprise students' parade, cultural shows and competitions that will start at 8 am on December 18 at outdoor stadium at Wakra Sports Club.
The Wakra stadium will host wide variety of cultural fiesta by famous artists from Pakistan. Sarfaraz, Nadia Gul, Harun Basha, Brashna, Deba, Osman Bangesh, Sadiq, Sana, Shoukat Mahmoud, Shamaa Adel, Shahid Ali Khan and Khanzeb are among the artists who will perform in the Pak community event at Wakra football stadium at4 pm on December 18.
The Filipino and Indonesian community teams will showcase their cultural fiesta at Rayyan Sports club Indoor Stadium along with students of expatriate schools.
The events will start here at 8 am on December 18 and will continue till 10 pm.
A mega Indian musical night will take place at Barwa Workers Recreation Complex in Al Khor industrial area namely ‘Rafi Night’, led by popular Indian singer Muhammad Aslam from 4 pm on December 17.
The Barwa Workers Recreation Complex in Al Khor will host cultural and folklore shows and musical performances of Nepalese expats and Al Khor community teams along with shows by the students of Al Khor Indian School.
Along with cultural events, different sports championships will be held between communities, company and school teams on December 18 in Wakra Sports Club, Rayyan Sports Club and Al Khor Barwa Workers Recreation Complex
The entry is free to all venues and the organizing committee has arranged special areas for families in every venue. Prizes are on offer for the public through a raffle draw.
The press conference was also attended by and Chairman of the Bin Ajyan projects Muhammed bin Ajyan Al Ahbabi and representatives of Indian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Indonesian, Nepalese communities and participating schools and supporting companies.
