Doha: The 8th Annual HSE Forum in Energy was held under the patronage of H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of QP, in Doha last week. Qatar Petroleum (QP) officially supported the event in line with its commitment to excellence in health, safety and environmental (HSE) performance. QP’s HSE programmes and activities are intended for the protection of the health and safety of its employees, contractors and members of the public, as well as the protection of its assets and the environment, a release by the company said.
The 8th Annual HSE Forum in Energy brought together HSE experts and industry professionals for an in-depth discussion of major HSE issues and the best ways to address them. Organised annually in Doha by Fleming Gulf, this year’s edition of the event had the theme, “Refining the Vision: Turning Commitment into Reality.”
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of Dr Al Sada, Saad Ali Mohammed Al Kubaisi, Corporate HSE Manager at QP, said: “The theme of this forum underscores the determination of our country’s leadership not to accept the status quo, not to be satisfied with what has been achieved, but to visualize a brighter and better future and then commit the country’s resources to the achievement and realisation of this vision.”
Citing that “safety culture enhancement” often is the biggest challenge in achieving quantum jump in HSE performance,
Al Kubaisi proposed a paradigm shift in safety culture improvement supplemented by stringent and rigorous application of the risk-based approach to managing HSE.
“I believe that if we apply ourselves at exploring better ways of implementing the risk-based approach in more innovative ways in every facet of HSE, that is scheduled to be discussed by this forum, significant thoughts will emerge towards realisation of individual and collective HSE visions going forward,” he explained.
Senior QP officials handling HSE functions benefitted from the conference by sharing their expertise. Nasser Mohamed Ali Mubarak, Manager, Corporate HSE Support, contributed to the Executive Plenary Session.
