The College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q) recently held a celebratory presentation to launch a rich line-up of events to take place in a year to celebrate the school’s first decade.

Students, staff, faculty, alumni, and the visionaries who founded Qatar’s premier technical college gathered to honour the College’s illustrious first decade.

In addition to introducing CNA-Q’s “10 Year Committee,” the key people behind the College’s vision and growth, the event will also revealed the 10th Anniversary slate of events throughout the school year, as well as the new logo commemorating this important achievement.

“The CNA-Q 10th Anniversary logo was inspired by the concept of a medal, a universal symbol of reward for the hard work and dedication of the visionaries, leaders, professors, staff, students, alumni, business partners and community members who make up the CNA-Q community,” said Dr Ken MacLeod, President, CNA-Q. “The Arabesque design motif and the use of the Qatari national colour speak of unity across cultures in pursuit of excellence.”

The Launch Event is the first of six 10th Anniversary events promising a year full of CNA-Q celebrations. On October 20, the College will host a Family Day at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park, from 10am to 5pm, featuring entertainment, food, outdoor games and activities for children and adults.

A highlight of CNA-Q Family Day will be a 10th Anniversary Birthday Cake, around which Family Day guests can gather in a salute to the college’s “Decade of Excellence.”

From April 5 to 7, 2013, CNA-Q will host “Global Innovators 2013: Leading and Learning in Technical and Vocational Education,” a conference to be held at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC), an international forum designed to gather the world’s leading practitioners in technical and vocational education (TVET). Global Innovators will offer its delegates and exhibitors a seamless environment in which to experience novel and pragmatic approaches to TVET strategies, techniques, methodologies and tools.

This year will also see a Charity Event involving students in raising funds to benefit a local charity, as well as a National Skills Competition, both of which will be held on-campus.

Festivities will conclude with a 10th Anniversary Gala in May, 2013 featuring a formal dinner, 10th Anniversary documentary film and recognition of the key individuals behind this decade of success.

The college is also asking students, faculty, staff and alumni to contribute CNA-Q memories to a 10th Anniversary Electronic File, affectionately dubbed “Filing Memo.” At the end of this school year, Memo, who doubles as a time capsule, will be stored and then reopened in 2022, introducing compelling memories to a whole new generation of the CNA-Q community as the college prepares to celebrate its 20th Anniversary.

“We have come so far since our 2002 opening in a temporary campus in Al Rayyan with 300 students and 50 staff,” said Dr Latifa Ibrahim Al-Houty, Vice Chair, Executive Committee, CNA-Q, one of the founders of Qatar’s first technical college. “H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser envisioned a technical college that would put Qatar on the map while producing competent leaders of industry for the future – and now, ten years later, we have 3,000 graduates who are helping to shape our country’s strategic economic and development goals for future generations.”The Peninsula
