Doha, Qatar: Msheireb Properties revealed that they will launch its first annual Green Programme — a pioneering initiative aimed at spearheading sustainability within the Food & Beverage (F&B) retail sector at Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD).
“One way in which we’ll be drawing attention to the concept of sustainability is by launching [the] first annual Green Programme initiative to promote sustainability practices within Food & Beverage (F&B) retailers at MDD,” Msheireb Properties CEO, Ali Al Kuwari told The Peninsula.
The said campaign is among those which will run during the Expo 2023 Doha. Recently, the real estate developer had been named as the official Sustainable City for the upcoming event and will run from October, and is the first A1 International Horticultural Exhibition in Qatar.
The Green Programme represents a bold step forward in showcasing how businesses can actively reduce their carbon footprint while embracing eco-friendly practices and technology. It underscores Msheireb Properties’ commitment to sustainability. Its core objective is to empower F&B retail establishments within MDD to transition towards more sustainable and environmentally responsible operations. By participating in this programme, these businesses gain access to a wealth of resources and guidance that facilitate the adoption of eco-conscious practices.
“The Msheireb Green Programme is another way in which we are promoting sustainability practices and making it easier for our businesses to do good. Taking part in the programme will help our food and beverage tenants increase the use of environmentally friendly methods of operation and technology. Msheireb Green Certificates will be awarded to establishments that achieved a set of stringent criteria designed in collaboration with Cundall and Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC).”
Through the Green Programme, Msheireb Properties seeks to cultivate a culture of sustainability and environmental awareness within the MDD.
Al Kuwari also emphasised that Msheireb Properties and Expo 2023 Doha partnership is a key milestone on the road to boosting sustainability efforts in Qatar, which is the central theme of Expo 2023 Doha.
“Msheireb Properties, developer of the world’s first sustainable downtown regeneration project, the MDD, will showcase the future of sustainable living in Qatar, and the wider Middle East and North Africa region. MDD is a tangible, thriving example of what the future of cities can look like. Msheireb Properties and Expo 2023 Doha organisers share a commitment to a greener, more sustainable future,” the CEO explained.
As the exclusive Sustainable City Sponsor, Al Kuwari said that they will work closely with Expo 2023 Doha to spread awareness about the need to protect the natural environment and find sustainable solutions for future generations.
The CEO further said that MDD’s contribution to Expo 2023 Doha is multifaceted, extending support to its events and activations, fostering meaningful connections with audiences highlighting Qatar’s sustainable industries.
