Doha: Speaker of the House of Representatives of the sisterly State of Libya H E Aguila Saleh hailed the State of Qatar’s supportive stances towards Libyan people and its keenness on achieving Libya’s security and stability, and its aspirations for peace and development.
In an interview with QNA at the end of his visit to the country, he said that he was honored to meet Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and brief him on the latest developments in Libya and the efforts made to resolve the Libyan crisis by peaceful means.
He said that he briefed HH the Amir on the latest developments of the situation in Libya and their view on these developments.
The meeting was constructive and he sensed the Qatari leadership’s keenness to settle differences in Libya by peaceful means, he pointed out, noting that the Qatari leadership is open to all Libyans and is eager to restore security and stability in Libya.
The Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives indicated that he discussed with Speaker of the Shura Council H E Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim means to develop cooperation between both countries in the parliamentary field, and the possibility of forming a committee for communication between the two sides and exchanging visits to strengthen parliamentary relations.
He underlined that his visit to Doha was successful, and he found a warm welcome that reflects the strength of relations between the Qatari and Libyan peoples.
Aguila affirmed that the meetings in Doha were historic and he promised to make every effort to solve the Libyan crisis.
The Libyan people are betting on the support of their Arab brothers, who have no interest but to solve the Libyan crisis, he said, expressing great optimism about the results of this visit and the ongoing movement to reach a solution to the crisis.
He also affirmed his confidence in the ability of the Libyan people to overcome the current challenges, and said that the internal initiatives for a settlement are important, as Libyans themselves know their affairs and there is a rapprochement between the State Council and the House of Representatives regarding the constitution and other procedures.
Aguila Saleh called on all Libyans to turn the page on the past, forget differences and unite to create the appropriate atmosphere for the elections, so that everyone can invoke the ballot boxes. He continued to say that Libya is part of this world and it will fulfill all its pledges and obligations, noting that the opportunity will be provided for everyone to contribute to the reconstruction and development of Libya again, as it enjoys many resources and needs more support to achieve development and stability.
Regarding Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the Speaker expressed his confidence that the State of Qatar will organize an exceptional tournament which is being organized for the first time in the Middle East, pointing out that it is a source of pride for the State of Qatar and all Arabs, and indicates a Qatari foresight and intelligence. Everyone trusts that the hosting, organization, security and management of the tournament will be at a high level, he added.
The attention of the world is now directed to the State of Qatar, which has proven that Arabs are capable of organizing and hosting such major gatherings and events, he said, wishing the State of Qatar all success in organizing this global event.
