Doha: Six Qatari women, including the Minister of Public Health H E Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, have been named among the Forbes Middle East’s 100 Most Powerful Businesswomen 2023.

The Minister is ranked in the eighth place recognising her role as the Managing Director of Hamad Medical Corporation. 

The February edition of Forbes Middle East yesterday published the list of Middle East’s 100 Most Powerful Businesswomen 2023.

Qatari women named in the Forbes Middle East includes CEO of Ooredoo Oman, Noor Al Sulaiti; CEO of QNB Capital, Mira Al Attiyah; Deputy CEO and Chief Business Officer of Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Authority, Sheikha Alanoud bint Hamad Al Thani; Founder and Chairperson of Al Faleh Educational Holding, Sheikha Aisha bint Faleh Al Thani and Founder and Chairperson of Amwal, Founder and CEO of Al Waab City Real Estate, Founding Chair of INJAZ Qatar, Sheikha Hanadi bint Nasser Al Thani.

“Women in the Middle East and North Africa today lead some of the largest companies in the region, with some also making their mark internationally,” said Forbes Middle East publishing the list of powerful businesswomen for 2023.

“The banking and financial services sector dominates the list with 23 entries, followed by 11 who are leading diversified businesses, eight from the investments sector, six from the retail sector, and five from healthcare,” it said.  

Forbes Middle East added that the UAE and Egypt scored the most entries at 15 and 12, respectively, followed by 11 from Saudi Arabia, eight from Kuwait, and six each from Lebanon, Qatar, and Oman.

According to the Forbes Middle East, this year’s list of the region’s most powerful businesswomen features 100 entries, with 104 women from 27 different sectors and 27 nationalities.

In creating the ranking for Most Powerful Businesswomen 2023 several points have been considered, including the impact that the leader has had on the region and the markets that she serves; achievements and performance of the leader in the last year; number and extensiveness of the sustainability and CSR initiatives led by the leader and the designation.

Also the size of the business in terms of revenues, assets, market capitalisation, and the number of employees and the number of years of industry experience that the leader has and the time they have served in their current role have been taken into consideration during the ranking, said Forbes Middle East.
