DOHA: Indian ultrarunner Sufiya Sufi Khan, a three-time Guinness World Record holder, has embarked on an FKT (Fastest Known Time) Guinness World Record attempt and successfully achieved the feat on Friday, January 13, 2023.
In 30 hours and 34 minutes, the pro-athlete completed her first international expedition, 'Run Across Qatar', a 200 km South to North ultramarathon run. Besides breaking another Guinness World Record, Sufiya's goal is to raise awareness of leading a healthy lifestyle through physical activities such as running. Before the run, she said: "To circumnavigate the world on foot is my dream expedition and I am preparing myself to accomplish that. I continue to work towards pushing my endurance limits and encouraging more people to take up running."
The 37-year-old is well-known for her long-distance running challenges across India. She holds world records for being the fastest woman to traverse from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in 2019, setting the fastest time by a female to complete the Golden Quadrilateral Road Run in 2021, and for covering the Manali-Leh Himalayan Ultra Run Challenge in 2022.
To formally recognize her new achievement, the documentation of her Qatar expedition will be submitted to the Guinness World Records. Once verified, this will be Sufiya’s fourth Guinness World Record title.
Heartiest congratulations to @sufirunner for successful completion of 200 KM ultra marathaon run across Qatar and another #GWR attempt.
