Another interesting weekend is upon us. Listed below are some of the events we found interesting.
Cultural Diversity Festival
The biggest and the longest festival of its kind hosted by Katara, the Cultural Diversity Festival runs until May 25 and will see performances by 20 troupes from various countries and continents. A vital part of Unesco’s Intercultural Dialogue and Cultural Diversity Programme to increase cultural awareness and understanding, it also includes international and national workshops. India’s World Cultural Forum will perform on January 18 and 19, followed by the Nairobi National Dance Ensemble from Kenya on February 1 and 2. The festival gathers cultural performers from 20 countries representing four continents including Argentina, Burkina Faso, Cuba, Czech Republic, Georgia, India, Italy, Kenya, Japan, Jordan, the Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia, Singapore, Spain, Tajikistan, Turkey and Tunisia.

The Sleeping Tree
Doha Film Institute will screen The Sleeping Tree, a feature film debut of Bahraini filmmaker Mohammed Rashed Bu Ali at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Auditorium. A story about despair, struggle and sickness with spark of hope in the end, the sleeping tree blends reality with dreamscapes.

AFC U23 Championship
Its busy time for football lovers as Qatar is hosting the AFC U23 Championship. Asia’s future football stars are fighting to clinch their place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in the AFC U23 Championship taking place in Doha. A total of 16 teams will be battling for the three places available for Asian sides in Rio. The final is slated for January 30. Qatar is slotted in Group A along with China, Iran and Syria.

Luc Tuymans: Intolerance
Qatar Museums will present a retrospective of the work of Luc Tuymans, the first solo show of the artist in the Gulf region. The exhibition, Intolerance, a comprehensive survey of the artist’s work, will include a series of wall paintings and a new body of work, ‘The Arena’, created specifically for the show. Curated by Lynne Cooke, Senior Curator of Special Projects in Modern Art at the National Gallery of Art Washington.

Al Dana Green Run
Taking advantage of the pleasant climate in Qatar, Al Dana is hosting 11th Al Dana Green Run at Aspire Zone. The 3km run will be held on January 16 from 1pm onwards.

Open-air film screening
Two open-air theatres in Al Khor Worker’s Sports Complex will screen popular classic and contemporary bollywood movies for the enthusiasts in Qatar. Screenings are free and open to the public, and run from 5:30pm until midnight on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
