IIS holds 31st Annual Sports Day

Winners of various track and field events with the chief guests 

 

Doha: The 31st  Annual Sports Meet of Ideal Indian School concluded with great fanfare and fascinating performance by 1,200 students. Earlier, some 3500 students took part in the preliminary rounds of various track and field events under sub-junior, junior, senior and super senior categories. 

The grand finale was held recently where Hassan Ali M Abdulla, Assistant CEO, Milaha Trading declared the meet open after taking salutes of the marching athletes and hoisting the school flag. Girish Kumar KR, President, Indian Cultural Centre  was the Guest of Honour. 

Over 1,200 students gave fascinating performance to ensure the annual sports meet a grand success.

 

Addressing the gathering Hassan Ali M Abdulla expressed his joy and happiness on his presence in the School’s sports meet and he wished all success to the school’s sports activities. School President Hassan Kunhi said that participation in sports activities makes a person healthy whereby it creates a healthy nation and high productivity. A colourful display of mass drill by the students of Junior, Boys’ and Girls’ Sections enthralled the spectators with their mesmerising uniformity and cohesion.  

At the end of the day the champions in various sections of the school were:

  • Junior Section:  Yellow House (headed by  Mini Thomas and captained by Nitya Roy and Shayan)
  • Boys Section: Yellow  House (headed by Jaffaer KC and captained Mohd. Asmar  and Free D John) 
  • Girls Section: Yellow House (headed by Glory Thomas and captained Fariha Aziz and Jesha Joshi
  • Individual champions of Boys’ Section: Asad Mahmood (sub junior); Akhil Mohammed (junior); Modassir Baig (senior); and Nidhal Razikh (super senior).
  • Individual champions of Girls’ Section: Marium Halefom (sub junior); Thameema Thasnim (junior); Anugraha Shaju (senior) and Alice Aslem (super senior).   

 

IIS Girls gave their best performance. 

 

The Blue House bagged the Best in March Past for both for Boys  and Girls’ Sections.

House contingents of boys were led by the Head Boy Alhaj Ashraf and Assistant Head Boy Roshan Hegde, while Nadine D’Souza, the Head Girl and Rafia Islam, the  Assistant Head Girl led the girls’ contingents. Arundhathi Devi, Sports Secretary of Girls’ Section welcomed the gathering while Mayank Walia, Sports Secretary of Boys’ Section proposed vote of thanks.

Vice Principal Padma Ramaswamy, Headmistress Nazima Bi Girls’ Section and Mohamed Nowfal, Head of Physical Education coordinated the programme.
