Doha: As part of Doha being named the “Capital of Culture in Islamic World in 2021,” the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Sports represented by the Qatar Poetry Center ‘Diwan Al Arab’, hosted a poetry evening.
In attendance were Ahmad Musa Al Namla, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Museums, H E Sheikh Faisal Bin AbdulAziz Al-Thani, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Islamic Art, Dr. Hassan Rashid Al-Derham, President of Qatar University, Faleh Al Ajlan Al Hajri, Advisor to the Minister of Culture and Sports, as well as a group of distinguished poets and members of the wider community. Poets Nasser Al Wabeer, Hamad Al-Baridi, and Radi Al Hajri participated in the poetry evening, it was moderated by Atta Muhammad.
Diwan Al Arab was launched on March 20, 2017 coinciding the World Poetry Day to spread the culture of poetry and create the ideal environment for poets and to take the hands of young Qatari talents through sponsoring, supporting and organising workshops, courses and events. It also aimed to create a generation of creative poets in the State and contribute to raising the intellectual and literary level of the Qatari poets while adopting poetic projects that promote the taste of society, preserve its cultural identity and promote the literary heritage and rooting it.
