Doha: The Ministry of Culture organised a lecture yesterday entitled “Our Children are Our Future.. How to Develop Young People and Implant Our Culture and Values in the Future Generation” as part of the Department of Culture and Arts' activities, which coincide with Qatar Sustainability Week 2022.

Senior Attending Pediatrician at Sidra Medicine, Dr. Madeeha Kamal, said during the lecture that the child’s self-confidence must be strengthened and built early during childhood, as it starts from the love and attention the child receives from his parents since his childhood, and develops over time in different ways and reasons.

She added that a child feels confident when giving him some power to take actions in some situation, and thus, makes a progress towards achieving a specific goal. Dr. Kamal said that praising the child for his good behaviour, and teaching him new skills and abilities, makes him feel satisfied with himself. In addition, teaching the child the participation and cooperation values in his early childhood will make him, gradually more ready to start sharing with the people around him. Parents can also involve the child in some housework to develop his spirit of cooperation, instead of focusing on games only.

She noted that planting positive and good values, principles and behaviours from of the child’s early years is one of the most important methods of education to be followed with the child, as it makes him feel reassured and safe, which helps him build his personality and develop his confidence in himself and others.

The doctor pointed out that children need continuous care and guidance at all stages of their development, and education is not limited to the first years of their life, but continues until the adolescence age.

The Qatar Sustainability Week, organised by the “Our Legacy” Center, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, aims to involve the local community in a wide range of initiatives, activities and events geared towards sustainability, enhance awareness of its issues and highlight the progress made by the country in this field.
