Qatar’s preparations on ‘track’ for ICC World Cricket League

The Qatar Cricket Association (QCA) President Yousef Jeham Al Kuwari has expressed satisfaction on national team’s preparations for the ICC 2017 World Cricket League Division 1 Championship, backing the side to shine in this month’s tournament in Thailand.    

The team is undergoing extensive training for the event, which will be played from April 22 to May 1. The team will leave for Bangkok on April 16.      

Yesterday, the QCA arranged a practice match for the team against HBK to assess preparations for the upcoming event at Asian Town Cricket Stadium. 

The national team’s players impressed the top QCA officials with their all-round performance during the 50-over game.       

The QCA President who witnessed the live proceedings hailed team’s performance and hoped they will also do well in the ICC event. 

“The players are in good spirits and eager to do well in Thailand. They are showing improvement and their preparation for the tournament is on track,” Yousef Jeham said following the match.

“Their fitness level is also good and we wish them the best for the tournament. The team will get all out support from the QCA as it is striving to improve in international rankings.”    

QCA Operations Manager, Manzoor Ahmad, team’s head coach Abdul Rehman Chouhan and assistant coach Shamsuddin among others were also present. 

Apart from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Maldives, Bahrain, Bhutan, Iran, China and Myanmar besides hosts Thailand are taking part in the Division 1 tournament.

The team which will be led by Inam Ul Haq also includes Awais Mali, Khadeer Mohammad, Iqbal Choudhary, Khurram Shahzad, Qalandar Khan, Mohammad Nadeem, Kamran Khan, Tamoor Sajjad, Zaheeruddeen Ibrahim, Muhammad Tanveer, Noman Sarwar and Dharmang Hasmukh.

Eisa Ali Ghanem, the QCA Assistant General-Secretary, has been nominated as the Chef de Mission while Ahmad will also accompany the Qatar team. 

“The players are keen to do well and qualify for the next stages. The way they are shaping up, it is quite encouraging sign for us,” said Ali Ghanem. 

QCA Operations Manager Ahmed also reposed confidence in the team. 

 “After a strong build-up of the national team, we’re hopeful of a good display by the players. The player will hopefully grab the chance and try to guide the team not only in higher stages, they will help the team improve rankings as well.”
Qatar will play two warm-up matches ahead of the tournament. They will take on Bhutan on April 18 before meeting the hosts after a couple of days.
