Applications have poured in at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce seeking licence for running mobile vendor business. Registration is open and interested candidates can apply till February 1. The Ministry offered 12 opportunities for vehicle vendor in businesses including eatery, ice-cream parlor, tyre repair and beauty salon by the end of last month.
Limited opportunities were offered because the initiative is at the beginning stage. It means more opportunities are expected to be offered after a successful phase-1. Details about the initiative were given by the senior officials of the Ministry in an interactive programme on Qatar TV recently.
The programme was attended by Tariq Abdul Aziz Al Sada, Director of Public Relations and Communications and Saud Sultan Al Asiri, Head of Anti-Trade Monopolies and Market Competition Protection Department at the Ministry.
“We received big number of applications thanks to the awareness of people about the importance of the opportunities. Twelve opportunities are just beginning as an experiment to the markets,” said an official.

Vendors 'will be under strict monitoring'
“We study the initiative to assess the quality of the services to make it of international standards. The initiative aims at opening a new sector. Vehicle vendor business is available all over the world and the region as well. It is low cost compared to those like restaurant and other business activities,” said the official.
“The requirements for obtaining licence for vehicle vendor are easy. The candidate requires approval from employers and a few more. We made easy procedures for the issuance of the licenses. The main purpose is to organize the vendor market to safeguard the rights of customers and to specify the liabilities of the traders.”
The vendor business will help reduce the prices of commodities and services offered by the traders as it has low operation cost. They need not pay the rent of shops and other costs.
The vendors will be under strict monitoring by the authorities concerned to protect the consumers’ rights. It is easy to track vendors as they have to announce the type of business, places of practice and even the shops they bought the items from among others.
The application form seeking licences for vehicles vendors is available at the website of the ministry www.mec.gov.qa. The duly-filled application form may be emailed to [email protected].
Eligible applicants will be selected through a raffle. And the applications should meet the terms and conditions.
