RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) recently recognised 75 students from three secondary schools across Qatar for successfully completing the Safety Ambassadors Programme in the 2011-2012 academic year. RasGas plans to roll out the programme to ten schools this academic year.
Since the Programme’s launch in 2010, it has been piloted at both English and Arabic schools with plans to introduce it to more schools in Doha and Al Khor over the next twelve months.
“RasGas’ Safety Ambassadors programme stimulates interest in occupational health and safety as a career for young students in Qatar. This programme not only nurtures and develops safety and health awareness as a necessary life skill but it also builds a foundation for creating a reservoir of talent for the future oil and gas sector,” said Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, RasGas Managing Director.
The Programme is delivered over 6 to 8 hours as part of the school standard curriculum or as an extra-curricular activity. To apply the theory they have learnt to real life, students attended the RasGas Safety Training Centre in Ras Laffan to understand how the company addresses the safety challenges it faces day-to-day. The Programme was developed in collaboration with the British Safety Council ensuring participants receive internationally-recognised qualifications.
