Carmelo Ezpeleta, Dorna chief, is seen with Nasser bin Khalifa Al Attiyah, President of Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) during last week’s Grand Prix of Qatar in Doha.
DOHA: Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta yesterday applauded Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) for a job well done at the first round of the 2013 MotoGP World Championship held last week.
Ezpeleta also praised the role played by QMMF for raising the profile of bike racing in the country and the region as QMMF celebrated its 10 edition of the Grand Prix of Qatar.
In a message addressed to Nasser bin Khalifa Al Attiyah, President of QMMF, Ezpeleta said: “I want you to know officially that it has been a great pleasure for us to have spent the past 10 years working together.”
The Dorna chief added: “Kindly receive my congratulations for the fantastic organisation, the dream of having a spectacular and amazing Qatar Grand Prix comes true every year, thank you for all the help made possible by you and your team.”
Earlier in the week, Ezpeleta said the MotoGP family loved coming to Qatar.
“I was talking to Nasser yesterday and he said that they have improved in so many ways since their first Grand Prix in 2004. We come here for only one Grand Prix. I wish we could come here for more than one race,” he said with a smile. “I know that the riders like coming here. They feel right at home,” the Dorna chief said.
“Well, all the ideas proposed by Nasser are very interesting. When he decided to have the Qatari team on the circuit, that was a unique plan.
“Then he decided to have a woman rider on the team, this too was a very novel idea. This was really fantastic,” Ezpeleta said.
“They had female riders on their endurance team and then they had a female rider on their Moto2 side. I think this is a very important step for Qatar and for QMMF. We are extremely happy with that.”
