DOHA: The second day of competitions at CHI Al Shaqab 2014 saw spectacular freestyle displays from the Vaulting Squads and Pas de Deux teams.
The German Squad team VV Köln Dünnwald I remained at the top of the table, scoring 8.258 in their competition – more than a point higher than the runners up, Team Neuss Grimlinghausen, also of Germany.
Of competing at Al Shaqab, squad team member Corinna Knauf said: “The organisation is great and it’s really easy for us to compete. The buildings are amazing, they are very modern and impressive.”
Fellow team member Torben Jacobs said he was pleased with the team’s performance.
“It’s very good for us to be in the lead so early in the competition – especially when we are up against such strong competitors like Team Neuss,” Jacobs said. Although Vaulting features in prestigious CHI events, it’s not currently included as an Olympic sport. Corinna said that coming to Al Shaqab is great for raising the profile of the sport.
“It’s really important for us to be here to show what we can do,” she said. The excitement continues today with more individual and squad Vaulting events and the start of the Show Jumping competitions.
