Doha Film Institute (DFI) is inviting filmmakers seeking to fund their projects may now apply on its Film Grants which is open until January 18.
In an Instagram post, DFI Founder and Chair, H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani said: “As part of our commitment to supporting unique storytellers from MENA and beyond via DFI’s grants programme which has so far supported over 640 projects from 70 countries, the new DFI grants cycle is now open.”
“If you have a film, TV or web series project in various stages of development/production, head over to the DFI website to apply and get the support you need to move your project forward,” she added.
The DFI Grants Programme is aimed to identify new talent, seek out new cinematic voices and discover universally resonant stories.
It provides creative and financial assistance for short and feature-length films, subject to eligibility criteria, by Qatari and international first and second-time directors, as well as established MENA directors.
Financial support is also available for TV and web series helmed by MENA scriptwriters and directors, subject to eligibility criteria.
The TV fiction and creative documentary series development grant aims to assist independent screenwriters/producers from the MENA region in developing original serialized content intended for international audiovisual markets, while the web fiction and creative documentary series grant will support independent directors and producers from the MENA region in financing the production of original serialised content for the web.
There are two grants submission cycles yearly – the Spring cycle which is currently taking place and the Fall cycle which will commence in June.
Grant amounts for a short film is based upon the category which ranges from US$5,000 US$12,500, depending on which stage the film is (development, production or post-production). Meanwhile for feature films which are 65 minutes or longer, the grant ranges from US$10,000 to US$100,000, depending on the production stage.
For TV series, under development stage is up to US$20,000, while for web-series, under production stage, up to US$30,000.
