The importance of educational and technical workshops in academic institutions can’t be denied at all. They no doubt are organised to transmit cutting-edge information to the students which further supplements and enhances their teaching learning process.

The management at Pakistan International School (PIS) is fully committed to keep its students abreast of the latest innovations and research works in various domains. One such instance was the recently organised technical seminar on, ‘smart corrosion protection strategies in the oil andgas industry’.

The eminent scholar, Dr Abdul Shakoor, Assistant Professor, Centre for Advanced Materials (CAM), Qatar University, was the key note speaker. Attended by the students of college section, the said workshop served its core purpose of disseminating information about the burning issue of corrosion in the oil and gas industry and the importance of its mitigation.

Dr Shakoor, very eloquently put into words the problem of corrosion, its various forms and its shocking damages done to the oil and gas industry. He highlighted the protection strategies which are likely to be adopted to minimise the risk from this constant threat. The students took keen interest in the lecture as it was in line with their academic course of studies in Chemistry. They particularly showed their profound curiosity in different types of coatings which can be applied to repair and inhibit corrosion.

The workshop was followed by Question / Answer’s session in which the students give vent to their inquisitiveness by asking different questions for the guest speaker.

Nargis Raza Otho, Principal, PIS, expressed her debt of gratitude to Dr Abdul Shakoor for sparing his precious time and sharing the most invaluable knowledge and information about the problem of corrosion and the measures to be taken for its mitigation.
