Qatar’s Ahmed Budair, famous as the ‘Iron Arm’ yesterday excelled in the preliminary round to qualify for the men’s javelin final at the World Athletics Championships at London Olympic Stadium in London.
Budair, , who won the World Champion for Youth last year, displayed one of his best performances to reach a distance of 83.83, finishing third in Group A. According to details made available, German Johannes Vetter (91.20) and Tero Pitkaemaeki of Finland (85.97) secured the first two spots in the group respectively.
Julius Yego (Kenya) and Marcin Krukowski (Poland) also advanced from Group B. The final of the event is scheduled tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s Olympic hero Mutaz Barshim will start his stint at the worlds, with the high jump event getting under way today.
Barshim, a double Olympic medalist is in top form as he is leading the high jump competition in the Diamond League 2017.
He achieved the best record for the current season with a jump at a height of (38.3 m). He finished on top in Oslo round, the fifth round of the Diamond League last July.
The Rio Games silver medalist also became the extraordinary candidate to achieve the greatest dream of breaking the world record in the high jump, recorded under the name of Cuba Legend Javier Sotomayor 30 years ago (2,45 m).
The star high jumper has determination to break the world record as he has achieved a jump, the highest in the world so far (2.43m) in the US Nike tour, a big clash is expected between the world champions, led by Ukraine’s Bohdan Bondarenko and Canadian Derek Drouin, in addition to Syria’s Majd Eddin Ghazal and several winners who qualified for the 2017 World qualifiers.
