Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) issued 17,632 commercial licences in the first half (H1), of this year according to the official statistics of the trade sector released by the ministry, yesterday.

From January to June 2023, the Ministry issued as many as 7,842 commercial registrations. The trade sector of the Ministry also received 67,541 requests for renewal of commercial registration in the same period.

The official data shows that as many as 17,800 requests were moved to the Ministry for adding and editing commercial activities while the Ministry also received 6,081 requests to add a new branch in existing commercial activity. MoCI conducted 63,093 inspection campaigns to ensure the validity of commercial registrations and licenses.

In a recent tweet, the MoCI said that it allows Qataris who wish to conduct their commercial activities from home to apply for a home license, after submitting the following documents – a copy of the property’s address plaque, a copy of the applicant’s ID card, clearly showing the address, and a copy of the property owner’s ID card.

Recently, the ministries of Commerce and Industry, Labour, Justice, and Interior announced the inauguration of a new set of services that expands the scope of the single-window and facilitates a more simplified company registration procedure.

According to a statement by Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the new set of services allows investors to directly benefit from digitised services and enable them to complete transactions without the need to visit the relevant ministries’ websites or physical headquarters to complete the required procedures.

The new set of services includes improving the process of issuing commercial registrations by reducing the requirements and automating internal procedures and reviews with relevant governmental entities.

The newly updated single-window service also includes automatically adding the Computer Card to the commercial registration.

With each new commercial registration, labour approvals will be issued automatically in coordination with the Ministry of Labour.

As a result of the collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Metrash 2 Application now displays the automated work permit approvals and a copy of the electronic computer card. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has also recently allowed 15 home business activities with easy licensing procedures for such businesses.

The allowed home business activities include preparation of Arabic sweets of various kinds, serving meals on occasions, tailoring and sewing women’s clothing, embroidery and making dresses, parcel and gift wrapping activities and website design.

Other activities are photocopying and photography activities, packaging documents, memos, bindings and letters, making and preparing perfumes and bukhoor, making and preparing cosmetics, and preparing pies and pastries.
