Doha: The Philippine Embassy in Qatar announced on its Facebook page that overseas voting started yesterday and will continue on until May 9.

The Embassy will serve as the polling place for the 30-day voting period and will be open from 7am to 4pm. It will be open on Fridays and Saturdays, but only for purposes of voting, it said.

Registered voters are advised to bring either a copy of valid Philippine passport or Qatar ID to be allowed to vote.

It has released late in February the finalised Certified List of Overseas Voter in Qatar wherein the total number of registered land-based overseas voters reached 40,441, while the seafarer overseas voters number reached 19,584.

Meanwhile, on a separate Facebook post, it also cautioned Filipinos living and working in the country on a fake Facebook account posing as the Philippine Embassy.

“It should be noted that the official FB account of the Embassy has a blue check mark badge right after the account name, which serves as a verified badge to confirm that the FB page is authentic,” it said.

It added, “It may also be observed that the FB fake account name is separated by a comma, and was only created today [April 9] without any previous posts to show. While the Embassy has already reported this matter to relevant authorities in the Philippines and Facebook, the Embassy reminds everyone to be vigilant when using the social media.”
