Doha, Qatar: Hifz Al Naema Centre, Qatar’s largest social initiative to reduce food waste, saved 165,990 kg of food in February this year, helping reduce over 3.1 million pounds of carbon footprint.

Hifz Al Naema Centre saved 21,936 surplus meals and 20,703kg of fruits and vegetables in February 2025. The center also received 3,745 pieces of computers, electronic devices and furniture last month. As many as 21,761 people benefited from these activities in February.

The initiative is contributing greatly to the state’s ambitious programme to reduce food loss and waste throughout the supply chain and in households for sustainability.

The centre enhanced its operation during the holy month of Ramadan by making partnerships with several restaurants. It has called on donors to contribute to charity by purchasing Iftar meals from participating restaurants to distribute to workers and needy families in Qatar throughout the blessed month.

The centre can be approached through its hotline No: 44355555. Banquet organisers can reach the centre through the hotline, and they will dispatch vehicles to collect the surplus foods.

The centre collects surplus meals from restaurants and banquet halls and distributes them to needy families and workers. It also collected tonnes of vegetables, meat, canned foods and distributed them as food baskets among the beneficiaries.

The centre received 800,413kg food items worth over QR6.2m and distributed them to needy people in 2024. Last year, it also received 340,949 pieces of in-kind charity, including clothes, computers, electronic devices, utensils, and furniture to distribute to those in need.

The National Food Security Strategy 2030 targets reducing food waste by 50 percent and food loss by 30 percent. The Ministry of Municipality has stepped up efforts to conduct a survey to measure the amount of food waste and loss and bring about appropriate solutions to reduce them significantly.
