Rain and hail reported from North of Qatar; temperature to dip from tonight

Update: By evening there were reports of rain from in and around Doha.

Doha: Heavy rain and hail were reported from northern areas of the country. Qatar Meteorology Department posted videos on their social media handles that showed rain and hail from Ras Laffan, Kartiyat and Umm Salal – the Northeastern parts of Qatar.

The weather department also said that from tonight strong Northwesterly wind is expected and there could be a noticeable drop in temperature.

Chance of scattered rain, thundery at times, continues till Tuesday. Strong Northwesterly wind is expected to start affecting the country tonight blowing at speeds between 18 to 28kt gusting to 35 kt in some areas. Windy condition is expected to lessen tomorrow (Tuesday) evening whereas marine warnings continue until Wednesday, February 13. 

Windy conditions is expected to cause blowing dust and low visibility especially in open areas. In addition, a noticeable drop in temperature is expected compared to previous days with a maximum/minimum forecast of 22/15°C in Doha.

Qatar Meteorology Department urged everyone to be cautious and to avoid all marine activities.

Weather inshore until 6 pm on Monday will be partly cloudy to cloudy with scattered rain maybe thundery at times and slight dust to blowing dust at places at times, relatively cold by night, warning of expected thundery rain at some places and strong wind by evening, the MET said in its daily weather report.

Offshore, it will be partly cloudy to cloudy with scattered rain at some places maybe thundery at times, warning of expected thunder rain at some places, strong wind and high sea by night, the report added.
