Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Qatar, H E Pasquale Salzano (pictured), has affirmed that the relations between Italy and Qatar are wide, solid and efficient. The Ambassador said that two countries have continued to experience an impressive growth in all sectors of common interest.
In an execlusive statement to QNA on the occasion of Qatar National Day, Pasquale Salzano said: “Our natural friendship and mutual trust are based on a continuous high-level political dialogue, intense cultural exchanges and a deep economic integration that has led to a remarkable increase of the bilateral trade volume and relevant business opportunities for our companies.”
Italy and Qatar, he said, have proved to be like-minded partners, keen to extend this fruitful collaboration to new projects, such as development cooperation initiatives in the fields of education, social empowerment and environmental sustainability.
“There is no doubt we have achieved outstanding results so far, but there is also a huge untapped potential that we can still develop together. To this aim, Italy and Qatar are both strongly committed to further deepen their relations at all levels and explore new fields of cooperation for the good of our peoples,” Ambassador Pasquale Salzano added.
The Ambassador congratulated Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani; Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Deputy Amir H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as the Qatari people on the occasion of the National Day.
He underlined that on the 18th of December, the people of Qatar live an extraordinary moment of celebration to pay their tribute with proud and joy to the history of the country, its deep traditions and fascinating culture, adding that it is a special occasion to honour their common identity and the affection and loyalty felt towards the State’s institutions and symbols.
Qatar has proved to be a strong and resilient country, and that difficulties have not prevented its people to look ahead and aim high with trust and courage, following a vision based on innovation and change, he said, pointing out that thanks to the major reforms that will be implemented, Qatar has become even more dynamic and friendly.
The full business ownership rights for foreign companies, the abolition of the ‘kafala system’ and the elimination of the no-objection certificate (NOC) for migrant workers to change jobs, combined with the establishment of a non-discriminatory minimum wage and the increased protection of human rights, are just some of the most significant achievements in 2019, the Italian Ambassador said.
Qatar has continued to walk along a path of social inclusion, openness to diversity and cultural exchanges, enhancing dialogue and international cooperation at all levels, in particular embracing the fight against the disastrous impacts of climate change, he noted.
