Kings outsmart Canucks 5-1

Los angeles: Three goals in the first period paved the way for the Los Angeles Kings in a 5-1 rout of the Vancouver Canucks before an announced crowd of 18,230 yesterday at Staples Center.
Tyler Toffoli had a goal and two assists to lead the Kings (8-4-3), who captured their seventh win in their last eight games at home.
Jeff Carter, Anze Kopitar, Jake Muzzin and Marian Gaborik each had a goal and an assist, while defenseman Alex Martinez had three assists. Trailing 2-1 after two periods, the San Jose Sharks scored three unanswered goals in the third, including two by Brent Burns, to defeat the Dallas Stars 5-3 on Saturday at American Airlines Center.
Dallas, who saw their winless streak run to seven games, led 2-0 and 3-1 after Tyler Seguin scored a hat-trick. Frans Nielsen ripped a one-timer from the high slot with 2:31 left in regulation and the Islanders won their third straight game with a 1-0 decision over the Arizona Coyotes at Gila River Arena.
After losing in Colorado and San Jose to start the trip, New York finished the trip with wins over the NHL-leading Anaheim Ducks, the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings and the Coyotes.REUTERS
