Doha: Children and young people across Qatar who embody strong moral values, character, and ethics — qualities which benefit their communities — are being sought to participate in Qatar Foundation’s Akhlaquna Award and Akhlaquna Junior Award 2022-23.

The Akhlaquna Award, established in 2017, recognises and celebrates young people whose behaviours and mindsets reflect the timeless and universal values exhibited by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and who commit themselves to improving society through their actions and the example they set.

Applications for the latest edition of the Akhlaquna Award are open until March 4, 2023, as are submissions for Akhlaquna Junior, which honours school students who uphold and demonstrate the values and morals that are at the heart of Akhlaquna, and demonstrate to other young learners how they can do the same.

“The Akhlaquna Award and Akhlaquna Junior Award reflect Qatar Foundation’s commitment to inspiring children, young people, and all members of society, to be active, aware, compassionate, and thoughtful citizens who are dedicated to strengthening their communities, and to being true leaders and change-makers,” said Shk. Noof Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Executive Director, Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships, Qatar Foundation Pre-University Education.

“Since its establishment five years ago, Akhlaquna has continually evolved. While inviting award applications from the young creators of projects that exemplify moral values such as mercy, honesty, generosity, and tolerance – values that are intrinsic to any strong and supportive community – Akhlaquna’s scope and emphasis has extended to nurturing behavioural change within society, reinforcing the message that knowledge and morality are intertwined.

“Akhlaquna Junior, meanwhile, honours school students who uphold and demonstrate the values that are at the core of Akhlaquna, while illustrating to young learners throughout Qatar how they can translate these into actions, mindsets, and practices within and beyond their schools. In this way, Akhlaquna Junior aims to foster closer relationships between school students and Qatar’s community, encouraging students to perform voluntary work that positions them as engaged contributors to society.”

“Akhlaquna 2022-23 will continue to engage children and young people to embrace the values of this initiative, and provide them with the tools and capabilities to make a real difference to their lives and the communities they live in – empowering them to be drivers of positive change.”

Ahead of the opening of submissions for the Akhlaquna Award, student-focused workshops – involving former award winners and finalists – are being held in schools and universities in Qatar, raising awareness of the initiative and inspiring young people to apply, while also providing them with guidance.

Orientation sessions will also be held to make school students aware of the Akhlaquna Junior award and encourage them to embrace its ethos and the values and morals it promotes.

The winners of the 2022-23 awards will be recognised at next year’s Akhlaquna Day, a celebration which also offers networking opportunities as they look to advance their projects.

The Akhlaquna Award is open to any Qatari citizen or resident aged 15-24, whose individual or team project embodies exemplary moral character, with three finalists being shortlisted and voted on by the public, as well as being assessed by an expert panel of judges.

Akhlaquna Junior applicants must be aged 7-14 and display their commitment to moral values and good behaviour, their ethical treatment of others, and their participation in school activities and volunteering.
