DOHA: Defending champion Australia’s Alex Cudlin will be aiming to increase his points (33) tally, who is ahead of Qatar’s Mishal Al Naimi, when the fifth round of the Qatar International Road Racing Championship (QIRRCH) takes place this weekend.

Championship leader Cudlin, who has accumulated 149 points, said he will be aiming for victory at this week’s QIRRCH, which will take place at Losail International Circuit.

He said:  “It was a shame to miss out on the double last time but I have to keep my head on straight because Al Naimi is riding really well and his bike is fast in a straight line, which is a big plus around Losail circuit.”

He added: “I’d really like to set up a championship victory for the next round, because it would be really nice not to have to go to the final round without the pressure of having to seal the title, so I’ll be coming out with all guns blazing this weekend and trying to capture the three wins in the series first triple header.”

The female German rider Nina Prinz is in third place.

There will also be the second race of the third round, which was cancelled due to the bad weather conditions.

The cancelled race will take place tomorrow at 10.10pm after free and qualifying practices.

The two races for the fifth round will take place at 6.30pm and 9.10pm.

Also taking place this weekend, will be the Qatar National Road Racing Championship in the cars category.

Free and qualifying practices will take place today with the race to be held tomorrow evening at 10.20pm.

The leader of this championship is the Australian driver Talal Wehbe with a Lotus car. Wehbe has 16 points and the second classified is Nasser Al Abdulla with 11 points.THE PENINSULA
