Doha: Clemens Schmid of Al Nabooda Racing won Round 10 of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East at Losail International Circuit with a dazzling performance under the lights in a race packed with enthralling action featuring one of the strongest grids in the history of the leading one-make series on Sunday night.
The Austrian driver only needed four laps during the qualifying practice to get the pole position for the Race 2 of the weekend. Saudi driver Abdulaziz Al Faisal took the second place on the grid.
The Danish driver Christina Nielsen in the silver category got the fifth best place and she started from the third row on the grid.
As the same scenario like Saturday, Clemens dominated all the race from the beginning until the end battling very hard with Abdulaziz Al Faisal who ended in second position. German driver Markus Pommer clinched the third place. In the silver category, Nielsen finished in first place in her category whereas Faisal Bin Laden from Saudi Arabia and Mohammed Mattar from Bahrain were second and third respectively.
In the bronze category, Manfred Ender from Austria won while Lebanese driver Ziad Ghandour came second and Jaber Al Khalifa from Bahrain finished third.
On Saturday, Schmid produced a flawless race to claim his fifth win in a row and extend his lead by eight points over Saudi Falcons Abdulaziz Al Faisal in the overall championship standings.
The young Austrian grabbed maximum points on the 5.38km Losail International Circuit, defying challenges from adversary Abdulaziz (second) and Germany’s newcomer to the series and former F2 driver Markus Pommer (third).
