Doha: The Amir, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, donated QR50 million to the "Aoun and Sanad" campaign launched on Friday by the Qatar Red Crescent Society, Qatar Charity, Qatar Authority for Charitable Activities, and Qatar Media Corporation for the earthquake victims in Turkiye and Syria.
The campaign, which received overwhelming support from corporate organisations and individuals in Qatar, had garnered over QR140 million as of the time of writing this report.
Qatar National Bank (QNB) and the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs each contributed QR10 million.
Ooredoo, Doha Bank, and Gulf Exchange donated QR1 million each, while Al Jazeera Medical Center put in QR900,000, making it QR3.9 million in total from the four organizations.
There were also donations from anonymous and non-anonymous individual donors, with some making personal donations of QR4 and QR5 million.
Many citizens and residents also flocked in droves towards donation points set up at Souq Waqif, Aspire Park, and Katara, for monetary and in-kind donations.
Syrian and Turkish people were awoken at dawn on Monday by a 7.8 richter magnitude earthquake that took over 22,000 lives in both southern Turkiye and northern Syria.
