Doha: The College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University has announced to hold an international conference on the renovation and rationalisation issues in Dr. Yusuf Al Qaradawi’s thought, in October 2023.
The Dean of the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, Dr. Ibrahim Abdullah Al Ansari, said that the conference comes as a recognition of Sheikh Yusuf Al Qaradawi, who established the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, as he was the first dean of this college, pointing out that he is a prominent scholar in religious reform and renewal.
In statement to (QNA), Al Ansari explained that a scholar like Sheikh Al Qaradawi must be given attention and study, especially since the faculty of Sharia centred its message on discreet Islamic science, of which Sheikh Al Qaradawi was one of its prominent faculty of this college.
He noted that scientific figures serve as role models represented by the Islamic scientific and educational heritage that is embodied in reality, pointing out that the focus is not related to their persons, but rather to their achievements and work that they left for generations, expressing his hope for new personalities that complement the approach of these scholars.
He pointed out that Sheikh Yusuf Al Qaradawi was a scholarly figure, who was distinguished in this era by contributing to various Sharia sciences, by renewing intellectual production, by a well-established methodology in dealing with issues of Fiqh and life, and by his ability to apply Sharia texts to reality.
He pointed out that the conference seeks to identify the most important scientific, cognitive, intellectual and advocacy issues by Al Qaradawi, and to present them for discussion and criticism, praising his encyclopedic culture, moderate approach, literary talent, forward-looking vision, divine judgment, and his knowledge of the facts of the times.
Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of the conference, Dr. Ali Al Ashi, said that the organisation of this conference comes to answer important questions related to knowing the scientific and reform references of Sheikh Al Qaradawi, and knowing the features of his approach in dealing with Sharia studies in its Quranic, hadith, fiqh, faith and intellectual fields, and the most prominent features of renewal, rationalisation, humanitarian and civilizational issues that occupied his thoughts in advocacy and correcting concepts.
Al Ashi emphasised that the conference aims to identify the contribution of Dr. Al Qaradawi’s scientific and knowledge heritage in reforming, renewing and rationalisation of the reality, highlighting new dissertations of his reform and renewal project, and revealing methodological dimensions in his scientific and knowledge heritage.
The conference axes will be related to the scientific and reformist references of Dr. Yusuf Al Qaradawi, and his renovation in Quranic, hadith, fiqh, faith and intellectual studies.
