In line with the Ministry of Interior’s strategy to enhance community partnership and role in strengthening family cohesion, the Community Police Department yesterday organised a seminar titled “The Role of Society in Strengthening Family Cohesion”.
The seminar aims to highlight Qatar’s keenness and interest in respecting human rights and international standards and conventions governing human rights in general, and the role of society in strengthening family cohesion in particular, and to know more about the Qatari, Arab and Islamic values and customs that reject all forms of family disintegration and rift.
The event, which was held at the General Directorate of Traffic, was attended by Director of Public Security, H E Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi and a number of directors of departments and officers of the Ministry of Interior as well as a number of those interested in family affairs from various state institutions.
At the beginning of the seminar, Dr Ibrahim Mohammad Al Samih, director of the Community Police Department, gave a speech in which he stressed that holding the seminar comes in a belief in the importance of social responsibility and in line with the Ministry of Interior’s strategy in strengthening community partnership.
“It also comes in accordance with the Qatar National Vision 2030, whose first pillar is human development and emphasises the solidarity of society with all its governmental and civil institutions,” he said, indicating that the axes of the symposium include the role of national legislation and international agreements, the role of relevant government agencies and institutions, the role of civil society institutions, and the role of educational institutions and scientific research centres.
He also said that the symposium aims to encourage researchers, scholars and specialists to contribute to strengthening the role of society in the cohesion of the family and to find the means to do so and to enhance cooperation and activate the partnership between all concerned parties.
For his part, Prof. Khalid Mohamed Al Ansari, Chair of Emergency Medicine, at Sidra Medicine spoke about the activities of Sidra Centre to advocate for children’s rights before and during the coronavirus pandemic and talked about the impact of COVID-19 on children represented in domestic violence, child abuse, and elder abuse.
He said that COVID-19 has increased the risk factors for domestic violence due to several reasons, including isolation and quarantine.
Others talked about the need to enhance family cohesion and the role of international conventions and treaties in strengthening the role of society in supporting and protecting family cohesion and Qatar’s ratification of it.
