Doha: Aster DMH Qatar has set plans to expand its services in neurology and will soon begin providing outpatient consultancy in the field of neurosurgery.
Outpatient services in neurosurgery would start by visiting consultants at the Aster Hospital in the next two months. The service will also function as window for the patients who choose to continue their treatment including surgeries at Aster Medcity in India, said Dr Sameer Moopan, Chief Executive Officer, Aster DMH Qatar while addressing a press conference, yesterday.
“There has been a remarkable growth for healthcare in Qatar and Aster Hospital Doha has emerged as a preferred destination for patient needs. We are looking at possibilities of how our healthcare facilities in India and Qatar can work to address various conditions of patients here,” he said.
“We hope to start the outpatient services in a couple of months. We will have highly reputed neurosurgeons for consultations and patients can have a smooth pathway, if they choose to continue their treatment at our hospitals in India,” he added.
Dr Moopan highlighted that Medcity has a separate unit to handle international patients and that many patients from Qatar and the region travel there for medical treatment.
The outpatient services in neurosurgery at the Aster Hospital is expected to have visiting consultants such as Dr. Dilip Panikar, one of the most reputed neurosurgeons in India and senior consultant at Aster Medcity, Cochin in the South Indian state of Kerala.
Dr. Panikar is experienced in the field of neurosurgery, neuro-oncology and skull base surgery, reconstructive surgery for craniofacial deformities, functional neurosurgery and neurovascular surgery.
Neurosurgery concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system.
Dr. Panikar shared in-depth about his specialisation and said that at present he conducts most surgeries for conditions related to the brain including pain management, epilepsy and parkinson.
Dr. Nazar Moopan, Medical Director and Chief of Medical Staff, Aster DMH Qatar and Kapil Chib, Chief Operating Officer, Aster Hospital Doha were also present at the event.

At present Aster DMH Qatar provides services by neurologists for general conditions related to neurology at its medical centres.
