KINGSTON: Reigning 100m world champion Yohan Blake made a cautious but successful return to competition yesterday, winning a 200m race at a low-key all-comers meet, held at the national stadium.
Blake, who ran out of lane six, was in control of the race, leading off the bend to clock a relatively slow 20.72 seconds in a wind of 1.6m/sec.
He beat hard-charging world junior champion Delano Williams (20.74) by a hair, in Blake’s first race since he pulled up in the 100m at the UTech Classic on the same track on April 13.
Eight weeks ago, Blake walked off the track after grabbing his right thigh and slowing, later tweeting: “am good my twitter family just a cramp”.
After completing yesterday’s race injury-free, Blake again took to Twitter.
“Thanks be to God I finish the race” he tweeted, adding minutes later: “Wow I also feel rusty in my race.” AFP
