DOHA: Qatar’s second Chi equestrian tournament will be held from March 10 to 15, and Al Shaqab has become a hive of activity to get ready for what promises to be another world-class event.
Omar Al Mannai, Event Director of Chi Al Shaqab, said: “We are working around the clock to make sure that Chi Al Shaqab 2014 sets new standards of excellence for competition and hospitality at international equestrian events.”
Accommodation is being prepared for riders and grooms which is among the best available on the international circuit. As for the horses, Al Shaqab staff is busy building temporary stabling which rivals the permanent facilities of most other prestigious venues.
Around Doha, visitors and the local community have been treated to fantastic art work that is being used to promote Al Shaqab - an exciting modern take on Qatar’s illustrious equestrian heritage. Special efforts are under way to ensure that Chi Al Shaqab 2014 is the most media-friendly equestrian event to date – with dedicated press facilities and instant news updates delivered through the latest equipment.
Behind the scenes, arena layouts have been designed to push riders’ and horses’ skills to their limits, promising crowds dazzling displays of competitive horsemanship. The organisers have placed special emphasis on preparation and warm up areas to maximise performance and reduce the risk of injuries.
The annual tournament remains the only Chi-level competition in the Middle East and Asia, with jumping, dressage, vaulting and endurance competitions.
This year, around 160 of the world’s top riders and almost 200 horses will compete before royalty, VIPs and 10,000 spectators.
ExxonMobil is the main sponsor of Chi Al Shaqab 2014. Qatar Airways is the event’s partner airline.
